CO2/H2 separation through poly(ionic liquid)–ionic liquid membranes: The effect of multicomponent gas mixtures, temperature and gas feed pressure

This work presents mixed gas separation performance through PIL–IL membranes bearing pyrrolidinium-based PILs with [NTf2]– and [C(CN)3]– anions different weight percentages of the corresponding ILs using a ternary mixture H2, CO2 N2 feed pressures ranging from 1 to 4 bar temperatures 20 80 °C. COSMO-RS was successfully used understand behavior composites for H2 + mixture. The effect temperature between °C pressure also studied is here discussed. increased permeabilities increasing shown be due dominant role solubility at low temperature, diffusivity high temperature. small pronounced differences ideal CO2/H2 permselectivities prepared indicated that membrane efficiency can maintained, despite competition gases in experiments. Depending on operating conditions, best obtained PIL C(CN)3–60 [C2mim][C(CN)3], permeability 324.7 Barrer permselectivity 11.4. great potential biohydrogen clearly evidenced, since they revealed performances above Robeson upper bound even highest tested.
